The Law of Here and Now

On March 25, 2016 this particular Rule of Karma must have been overruled by my normally sensible self, for it was on this day that I decided in a dance fitness class to "ramp up my cardio". Yes, I distinctly remember that voice in my head telling me if it was okay to walk backwards, then running backwards would certainly be okay.
I tripped and with my outstretched arms behind me to break the fall, I broke both my wrists and thus began a healing journey (aided by surgery on both wrists with screws and plates) that has certainly given me a new perspective on so many things I had taken for granted.  For example, if my husband Stewie wasn't nearby, I could not open the refrigerator to get a snack. Dressing and bathing absolutely necessitated a call for help.
And so much more!!!
Loving and supportive friends reached out both at home and through the ethers on Facebook.  That's my friend Marcy on the right who volunteered to hold my glass of wine and Si is there for moral support.  Isn't that what friends are for?
Stew and I went for many gentle walks while both wrists were in splints and after a 4 mile jaunt around Nathan Benderson Park, we could not resist snapping a picture of me as if I had just completed  a marathon.
And now, four months later I can look back on the experience and be so grateful. Not only am I much more mindful than ever before, but I learned something that was quite foreign to me.........receiving! It has been a very humbling experience and one I know I will never forget.
And now I am asking you, the reader, to put yourself in my place and figure out for yourself what lessons you could conceivably take away if this had happened to you. Let me know by commenting below and sharing your thoughts.

Marji, I am very aware of my own limitations and have been more so after both you and Leah had falls. I don’t want to live in fear of falling, but I do want an awareness that I am no longer 40 and able to bound around like I did. We miss you dancing and hope to see you soon. xxoo
